The guppy is one of the world’s most widely distributed tropical fish and one of the most popular freshwater aquarium fish species.
Guppies originate from northeast South America (Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Brazil, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela), but have been introduced to many environments and are now found all over the world, except Antarctica. They are highly adaptable and thrive in many different environmental and ecological conditions.
The guppy is hardy, energetic, easily kept, and prolific. The male guppy is much brighter coloured of the sexes, leaving the female often lacking in color.
